BJP leader Laxmikant Chawla today wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to launch a liquor de-addiction drive at a huge scale the way he organised Yoga Day.

"I request you to launch a nation-wide drive to uproot the problem of liquor addiction and save lives of crores of people," Chawla said in the letter.

Congratulating the Prime Minister for making International Yoga Day a success, the senior BJP leader said, "On your appeal lakhs of people throughout the country practised Yoga and made it a success."

"You must be knowing that revenue earned from liquor is of great importance for state governments but they ignore the loss of lives caused by its addiction," Chawla said.

"Drinking alcohol causes several deaths every year making many children orphan. It also leads to paralysis and renders many family poor. But the state government ignores these for the revenue liquor generates," she said.
