BJP leader Babulal 'roughed up' by SP workers in Agra

BJP leader alleged that incident occurred in the presence of Station House Officer of Shamsabad police station

BJP leader Chaudhary Babulal and his supporters today alleged that they were roughed up by some Samajwadi Party workers at Shamsabad Police Station.

BJP candidate from Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha constituency, Babulal said he had last night gone to meet some party workers lodged in the police station in Shamsabad town, 25 km southeast of Agra, over allegations of election malpractices.

Babulal said he got into an argument with the policemen there and some Samajwadi Party workers, who were present at the station, allegedly intervened and beat him up along with his supporters.

The BJP leader alleged that the incident occurred in the presence of the Station House Officer of Shamsabad police station A K Yadav.
 
BJP workers led by sitting BJP MP Ram Shankar Katheria and MLA Yogendra Upadhyaya today gheraoed the Shamsabad police station in protest of the attack and demanded removal of SHO Yadav and the accused SP workers.

SP (Rural) K P Yadav, who was rushed to the spot, assured the agitating BJP leaders that Yadav's removal would be referred to the Election Commission, following which the dharna was lifted, said SSP Shalabh Mathur.

Both SP and BJP have lodged complaints against each other for instigating the incident, Mathur said.

No arrests have been made so far and further investigations are on in the matter, he added.
