Scores of BJP workers and leaders including former chief ministers Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank and Bhagat Singh Koshiyari were detained today while marching to the state assembly in protest against the state government's alleged failure on all fronts.

Slogan shouting BJP workers and leaders led by state unit chief Tirath Singh Rawat took out a procession from Race Course but were intercepted by the police about 100 metres away from the Assembly where they sat on a dharna.

The opposition leaders were shouting slogans against the government accusing it of failing to deal effectively with the mid-June calamity and controlling law and order in the city.

When BJP workers and leaders tried to jump the barricades put up near Assembly premises, senior party leaders including Nishank, Koshiyari, Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Ajay Bhatt and former MLA Munna Singh Chauhan besides scores of party workers were taken into custody.

They were, however, released soon after being brought to the police lines.

During the demonstrations outside the assembly Pradesh BJP president Tirath Singh Rawat fell from a barricade while trying to jump over it and received minor injuries.
