BJP nominees were elected chairman in 87 panchayat samitis across Maharashtra, while three candidates of its allies also bagged the post.
"BJP bagged 87 panchayat samiti chairman posts on its own in the elections yesterday, while 3 of its allies also won, taking the total to 90," party sources said here today.
"Elections were held in 284 taluka panchayats in 25 districts of the state. BJP also bagged 87 post of vice chairman on its own while 6 candidates were elected for the post from alliance partners," the sources said.

Shiv Sena won 49 post of chairman and 53 post of vice chairman. Various Aghadis (local fronts) bagged 18 posts of chairman and 20 posts of vice chairman and independents got elected to 3 posts of chairman and 4 posts of vice chairman.
Out of 2989 seats spread across 283 panchayat samitis, BJP had won 831 seats, Congress won 591, NCP 674 and Shiv Sena 581 seats, during the elections held last month.
