Yet another BJP member today attacked the judiciary in the Lok Sabha alleging that it, unlike the executive and the legislature, is accountable to none and does not do its work while keeps directing others.
Harish Meena raised the issue in the Zero Hour as he demanded that an All India Judicial Service be constituted so that the selection and working of judges is fair as, he alleged, they are now mostly drawn from either families of judges or lawyers.
Arjun Ram Meghwal and Udit Raj, both BJP members, had recently targeted the judiciary in the Lok Sabha over a number of issues, including "encroaching" on the rights of the legislature and the executive.
"The legislature is accountable to the people. The executive is accountable to the government. But the judiciary is accountable to none. If the people of India are harassed most by one thing, it is the working of the judiciary.
"Crores of cases are pending and it takes 20 years to dispose of a case which should take one year. They do not do their work but tell the executive that you do this, tell the legislature you do this and not that," Meena said.
Meena is also a former IPS officer who retired as a DGP. He is an MP from Dausa in Rajasthan.
His remarks drew support from many other members, mostly from the treasury benches.
