District election authorities today lodged a formal complaint against some BJP leaders accusing them of violating the Model Code of Conduct in Lakhimpur Kheri during a "Chai Pe Charcha" programme of Narendra Modi.
The BJP workers were accused of putting up tea stalls on Mohammadi road, using loudspeakers and offering tea to people without seeking prior permission from the district election authorities, official sources said.
The BJP men had yesterday put up the tea stall as part of a party campaign to engage people, particularly women, in discussion over tea with party's prime ministerial candidate.
Over two dozen persons including former Mohammadi Nagar Palika chairman have been named in the FIR lodged by the authorities.
