"Delhi Government saved an amount of Rs 30,000 crore which would have been provided to Delhi Vidyut Board if privatisation had not taken place," Power Minister Harun Yusuf said replying to a short duration discussion in Assembly on power and water supply.

He said BJP was "misleading" people of Delhi by making "hue and cry" over water and power tariff.

Power tariff for domestic consumers was hiked by a steep 26 per cent in June this year.

The Minister said the power situation has improved significantly in the city in last few years due to consistent effort of the government and power distribution companies.

Yusuf, however, warned the private power distribution companies not to harass consumers on the pretext of alleged tampering of meters.

"Delhi has been liberal as far as power tariff is concerned. The tariff was not hiked between 2006-07 to 2010-11," he said.

Earlier replying to a question, he said BSES has not paid any dividend to the government since starting operation almost 10 years back while Tata Power-backed TPDDL had paid a dividend of around Rs 116 crore to the government.

Delhi government has 49 per cent share in each of these two discoms.
