BJP MLA Chitranjan Sharma and seven others were today acquitted of all charges in a 16 year old murder case by a court in Bihar's Jehanabad district for lack of evidence.

District and Sessions judge Ajay Kumar Srivastava passed the order acquitting Sharma and others in the murder of a man named Suresh Prasad citing lack of evidence against the accused persons.

According to the prosecution, Prasad was shot dead and another injured by unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants in Waina village on March 16, 1998 reportedly due to political enmity.

On the statement of the injured person Ramnandan Prasad, an FIR was lodged against Sharma, the BJP MLA from Arwal and eight other persons one of whom was absconding.

The police later submitted a charge sheet against the accused persons and produced seven witnesses during trial of the case.
