A BJP leader today opposed the Punjab government's decision to shift AIIMS, proposed in Kapurthala district, to Bhatinda.

BJP MLA Manoranjan Kalia said, "Union Health Minister J P Nadda and the state government should reconsider the decision to establish the AIIMS at Bhatinda."

Kalia, who had been health minister of Punjab, said AIIMS should have been established in Doaba region. "But I fail to comprehend why is it being shifted to Bhatinda after announcement (of establishing it in Doaba region)," he said.

Yesterday, Congress' Jalandahar MP Santokh Singh has opposed Punjab government's move of setting up AIIMS at Bathinda instead of Kapurthala, and termed it as "discrimination against Doaba region."

Earlier in the week, Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal announced the setting up of AIIMS at Bathinda instead of Kapurthala.
