As soon as Dikshit started reading a statement at the end of the Question Hour rejecting allegations of CWG graft, BJP legislators were on their feet strongly objecting to it arguing that Speaker Yoganand Shastri had rejected their demand for a discussion on the issue yesterday.

The BJP had stalled the proceedings yesterday demanding a discussion into allegations of corruption against Dikshit in the wake of a court holding as "maintainable" a complaint against her in a CWG graft case. However, the Speaker had turned down the demand on the ground that the matter was sub judice.

With Speaker not heeding to their protest, a number of BJP MLAs trouped to the Well of the House and started sloganeering. As repeated efforts to pacify the agitating MLAs did not fructify, Shastri adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

As the pandemonium continued when the House met again, Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami moved a proposal for suspension of the opposition MLAs for remaining period of the session following which the Shastri asked the marshals to remove them from the House.

BJP has 24 MLAs in a House of 70. 21 MLAs were were present in the House were suspended today.

Shastri later said any MLA gets suspended for three days when government moves such proposal. "However, if they come tomorrow and plead to attend the House then the suspension can be revoked," he said. The Monsoon session of the House which began yesterday will come to an end on Friday.

In her statement, Dikshit, rejecting the graft allegations, said she has decided to reply as leader of Opposition V K Malhotra had "cast aspersions and laid charges of corruption against our Government and the Chief Minister in particular."

"There were some complaints of irregularities committed on account of various aspects especially relating to increase in the project cost. History of organising international games clearly establishes that there have been significant cost escalations," she said. MORE
