A BJP member today made a strong plea for allowing lower courts in Delhi to take up for adjudication disputes over property valued at over Rs 20 lakh.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Maheish Giri (BJP) said such a provision was urgently needed to help the poor in areas like east Delhi where the plots of their jhuggies (slums) are now being valued at over Rs 20 lakh.

This forces them to approach the higher courts where the fees of lawyers were much higher, making it unaffordable for the litigants, he said.

He wanted the Law Ministry to take urgent steps to remove the ceiling of the value of properties and plots as has been the case in other states.
