BJP MP Rakesh Singh is set to be appointed president of the party's Madhya Pradesh unit, sources in the party said.

Singh, the MP from Jabalpur in the state and chief whip of the party in the Lok Sabha, will replace Nandkumar Singh Chauhan who has been in the post since August 2014.

The move comes ahead of elections in the BJP-ruled state later this year.

According to sources, Singh's name was finalised in the BJP's state core group meeting in Bhopal last night.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP organisational secretary Ram Lal.

Besides Singh, the name of former state unit chief and Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, under whom the party had won the assembly elections in 2013, was doing the rounds, sources said.
