Looking to register its protest against the Centre's alleged "anti-farmer" policy, Porbandar BJP MP Vitthal Radadiya will be holding a farmers' rally tomorrow at Shastri Maidan here.
"A large number of farmers from across Saurashtra will attend the meet and vent their anger at the Centre's anti- farmer policy which has led to over 10 lakh farmers living in miserable conditions," Radadiya said.
Over 1 lakh farmers would attend the rally, he said.
Following the rally, the farmers, led by Radadiya, would hold a sit-in outside the district collector's office and submit a memorandum urging the Centre to release crop- insurance funds meant for farmers in the state.
He said the Gujarat government had no objection to paying the insurance money, but the insurance company had created a confusion by saying that the data given by the state government was fabricated and incomplete.
Opposition Congress had a week back held a farmers' meet of its own here.
Interestingly, Rajkot MLA and state agriculture minister Govindbhai Patel had said in response to the earlier meet that while farmers were working hard to leave behind the drought of the last year, Congress was rubbing salt into their wounds by organising the rally.
State BJP has extended full support to Radadiya's rally, and BJP leaders like Govindbhai Patel, Babubhai Bokhiriya, RC Faldu and Parshottam Rupala are expected to attend the same.
