The main function was held at Shyama Prasad Mookherjee Chowk here during which BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas hoisted the tricolour in the presence of party leaders and activists.

Speaking on the occasion, Manhas said it was on this historic day that Jammu and Kashmir acceded to the Indian dominion when the then Maharaja Hari Singh used his authority and signed an instrument of accession on October 26, 1947.

The BJP leader said Kashmir-based leaders have been questioning the accession to divert public attention from the real issues and the government's failure to meet the expectations of people.

He also appealed to party workers to take pledge to work towards strengthening the nationalist forces in the state.
