BJP today expressed its opposition to Delhi Government's reported move to convert public utility buildings into offices of MLAs in several constituencies, and said it would take up the matter with Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung later this week.

"BJP legislative group will call on Jung to protest against conversion of public utility buildings like barat ghars, community halls, stree kosh etc into office of assembly constituency in a number of constituencies," opposition leader in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said in a statement.

Gupta said two other BJP legislators, O P Sharma and Jagdish Pradhan, will join him in protest against the "politically" motivated move of the Aam Aadmi Part Government.

"BJP is of the strong opinion public utility buildings cannot be used for any other purpose except for which they were originally constructed," he added.

Gupta claimed public space measuring up to 2,000 sq metre has been converted into MLA offices.

"The bookings for marriages and other social functions have been discontinued. There is great resentment amongst local public. It is apprehended by the local residents that these premises will be subsequently misused for political purposes," he claimed.

Gupta said Assembly speaker Ram Niwas Goel, vide his June 25 letter, had requested him as well to identify suitable space for office of Assembly constituency in any government office/premises.
