BJP today sought to puncture the claims of Congress of Delhi being one of the "world class" cities and said that under its rule the national capital is being recognized as a "city of rapes" and "dirty Yamuna".

Slamming Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's recent speech at Ambedkar Nagar where he praised the city's development, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj charged Congress has made Delhi "unsafe and insecure" for people.

Swaraj was speaking at Greater Kailash constituency in South Delhi, where the party has fielded Ajay Kumar Malhotra, son of sitting MLA V K Malhotra, on a BJP ticket.

"There has been strong anti-incumbency against Congress and I appeal to the people of Delhi not to waste their votes on small parties," Swaraj said.

Referring to Rahul Gandhi's speech at Ambedkar Nagar, V K Malhotra said "He (Rahul) says Delhi is one of the best cities in the world but the foreigners who come here do not merely see the airport. They also go and see the real Delhi.

"They see people living beside railway platforms and tracks and they see men, women and children defecating in open. They also take those pictures and that is also the image of the national capital they carry back. But the government claims that the city is world class," he said.

Talking about the Yamuna issue, he said that during the Commonwealth Games, advisories were sent from foreign countries to their respective players to stay away from Yamuna water.

"Delhi has become the rape capital with an average of two rapes and 10 molestations cases happening here every day. Then what kind iof capital is this?," Malhotra said.
