"All of us have been waiting to hear her speak on several issues. Rapes happening unendingly and no conviction happening in Haryana where she even went to visit and console a family. But after that too her state government has failed to curtail violence against women. We would like to hear her mind on it," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.

She said while Gandhi talked about corruption all the time, no action has been initiated against those involved in corruption-related offences, be it Suresh Kalmadi or the Delhi Chief Minister or Cabinet members.

"We have not heard anything on Coalgate from her. Have we heard anything on the DLF-Vadra nexus? We have not heard anything again from her," Sitharaman said.

BJP leader Balbir Punj also questioned Sonia's silence on corruption in the government and charged the UPA-II of being "guilty of destroying the morale of the young people as also the confidence they had in this country".

The Congress president had in Mangalore sought to deflect attacks on the Congress over corruption by accusing the BJP of running corrupt governments in several states, affirming that her party has done more to fight this "cancer" than others.

"We all know corruption is a disease, a cancer. Who does it affect the most, it is the poor. No other party has done what UPA has done to fight corruption. We brought the RTI because we genuinely want to fight corruption," Sonia said addressing a public meeting and accused BJP of 'just pretending' to fight corruption in states ruled by it.
