"I do not wish to join issue with what some foreign journalist is saying about Rahul Gandhi. I think Rahul Gandhi's conduct over the years in the polity of the country speaks volumes for itself," BJP Chief Spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, in a sarcastic tone.

Maintaining that he was speaking as a member of parliament, Prasad said he is "really craving for a very effective intervention by Rahul Gandhi" in a parliamentary debate.

"Secondly, all the credit to Rahul Gandhi and no failure to Rahul Gandhi.... This argument of Congress... He went to Bihar, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Congress was wiped out in all these states," Prasad said.

In a scathing article, The Economist has alleged Gandhi lacks leadership qualities and has failed to deliver. It has also described him as a leader who is "reluctant" to assume a bigger role in Congress and the government and has also "missed" opportunities to prove his mettle.
