A team of BJP's state unit, carrying relief materials for villagers of trouble-torn Makhra in Birbhum district was not allowed to enter the village, as the area has been put under Sec 144 CrPC by the district administration.

The BJP team led by senior leader Tathagatha Ray tried to enter the village with a vehicle carrying relief materials such as milk powder, water, edible items for the villagers.

"We were not allowed to enter the village by citing Sec 144 CrPC. We told them that only two of us will go with the relief material but they didn't allow us. Later, the police told us to hand over the relief material to them. But we denied because we feel that the police will hand over the material to Trinamool Congress," Ray told PTI over phone from Birbhum.

The incident comes three days after BJP vice-president Muktar Abbas Naqvi along with other central leaders were arrested for trying to enter the village where three persons were killed in violence on October 27 when also the prohibitory orders was clamped there.

Makhra village was made out of bounds for politicians by the administration.

A Congress delegation led by the party's state unit chief Adhir Chowdhury was not allowed to enter Makhra yesterday.

Twelve CPI(M) leaders were also arrested on October 29 when they tried to visit Makhra. Congress and BJP teams were also stopped on that day.
