BJP today approached the Election Commission to demand ban on use of the word "minority" repeatedly by SP, Congress and BSP while seeking votes in Uttar Pradesh for the Assembly elections.

In a letter to the EC, BJP state vice president JPS Rathore said BSP supremo Mayawati was continuously asking the minority community to vote for her party and threatening the Muslim voters while seeking their mandate.

"She is trying to polarise the voters," Rathore said in the letter submitted to the state Chief Electoral Officer here.

He claimed that SP and Congress too were seeking votes in the name of religion.

"The EC should look into this seriously and derecognise these parties," he added.
