Opposition BJP today slammed the Bihar government for rise in crimes against women in the state due to deteriorating in law and order situation.

The issue was raised by the Leader of Opposition Nand Kishore Yadav during Zero Hour in the Assembly.

Yadav said law and order situation was deteriorating in the state under the JD(U) government and pointed to the spate of crimes against women in particular.

Quoting media reports, he alleged cases of rape and atrocities against women have increased in the state ever since BJP separated from JD(U) and the state government had failed miserably on the law and order situation.

BJP member Usha Vidyarthi, who was first to rush into the Well of House on the issue and was later on followed by other BJP members who raised anti-government slogans, later told reporters that 24 cases of rape, killing and other kinds of atrocities against women have been reported from different parts of the state within a span of ten days from June 20 to June 30 last.

She alleged due to no action of the police, the perpetrators of crimes against women were feeling emboldened.

The BJP members also demanded Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, who holds the Home portfolio, make a statement on rising crimes against women.
