"In a bid to benefit sugar mill owners, the government intentionally started crushing season after a month's delay," Shahi alleged while talking to reporters.
He said so far cane worth Rs 6,822 crore has been crushed against which payment of only Rs 2,288 crore has been made which was less than 30 per cent.
"Payment of Rs 4,600 crore to the cane farmers was still pending," he said.
He alleged that slips were not being issued to farmers, due to which they were unable to sell their cane.
"During elections, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav had promised to ensure payment of cane dues within one month of coming to power, which has not been fulfilled," Shahi alleged.
