The BJP today staged dharna in front of the district headquarters across the state to press for immediate dissolution of the state assembly to pave way for fresh election in Jharkhand which is under President's rule.
Leading the party activists here, former Deputy Chief Minister Raghuvar Das, MLA and former Jharkhand unit President of the party Dineshanand Goswami squatted in front of the East Singhbhum district headquarter here in support of the demand.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Das said President's Rule, which was in force in Jharkhand since January, was not an alternative to a popular government and demanded that the state assembly, which was kept under suspended animation, be dissolved forthwith and fresh elections held.
Echoing a similar view, Goswami said the Congress was afraid to face election in the state and wanted "to rule the state from the back door".
Congress was now bargaining with regional political parties, including JMM, to fight the coming election, he said.
Stating that election was the only option to put the state back on the path of development, Goswami alleged that law and order situation in the state had deteriorated during the 4-month President's rule.
