The BJP in West Bengal today started a two-day 'chintan baithak' to discuss the strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections in 2016.

Apart from the strategy, the meeting will also discuss various organisational issues, according to BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh.

The party will also discuss the issue of leadership in the state during the meet, according to senior state leaders.

The meet will be attended by senior BJP leader and observer for Bengal Kailash Vijayverge, BJP national general secretary Shiv Parkash, state president Rahul Sinha, two MPs and other state leaders.

The party is also set to discuss why the BJP failed to capitalise on the momentum following the good show in 2014 Lok Sabha polls in Bengal, the senior leaders said.

"A lot of factors were in favour of BJP, but we failed to capitalise on it. We could have done much better had we been backed by a more active state leadership," a senior state BJP leader said.

According to state leaders, a year after the BJP registered a "good" show in West Bengal in the Lok Sabha elections, lack of leadership, infighting and its alleged understanding with the ruling Trinamool Congress seem to have begun to take a toll on the outfit in the key eastern state.
