"We will strongly oppose the FDI in retail sector in Jharkhand," State President of BJP, Dineshanand Goswami said.
Retail sector is the second largest sector after agriculture to provide employment and over five crores populace in the country were directly linked with this sector, Goswami told PTI, while expressing apprehension that these people will be rendered jobless if the FDI in retail was allowed.
Criticising the Congress-led UPA government for opening the market "under the pressure of the foreign forces", the BJP leader alleged the move would certainly "affect the economic sovereignty" of the country.
Meanwhile, the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) announced that it would extend its support to the Bharat bandh called by NDA in protest against the diesel price hike and the FDI in retail sector.
The small players in the retail sector as well as large populace directly employed in this sector would be hit hard, if the FDI was allowed in the country, said Suresh Sonthalia, General Secretary of SCCI.
