The BJP will raise in Parliament the issue of Justice A K Ganguly, who has been found guilty of sexual harrasment by a Supreme Court panel, continuing as Chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission.

"Someone who has violated human rights cannot continue as Chairman of Human Rights Commission. We will raise this matter in Parliament," Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj today said on Twitter.

She had earlier maintained that Ganguly should resign, saying not only Caesar but Caesar's wife should also be above suspicion.

Ganguly, a former Supreme Court judge, has been found guilty of sexually harassing an intern.

However, the Supreme Court has said as per administrative powers vested with it, it cannot take action against a retired judge.

Swaraj's counterpart in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley disagreed with this contention of the apex court and said instead of adopting this "escape route", the Supreme Court should monitor a probe into Ganguly's alleged misdeeds.

The court, he said, is already monitoring cases like 2G spectrum scam.

Jaitley has also demanded that Ganguly should step down.

"Since Supreme Court panel has indicted Justice Ganguly for his unwelcome behaviour, his continuation as Chairman WBHRC is most unwelcome," Swaraj said.
