BJP today requested the Election Commission to postpone by-elections to Balaha and Nighasan Assembly seats in view of the flood situation in Bahraich and Lakhimpur districts.

The bypolls to Balaha and Nighasan are scheduled to be held on September 13 along with nine other Assembly constituencies in the state.

"I have written a letter to the EC requesting to postpone by-election for Balaha and Nighasan seats in the wake of flood situation in Bahraich and Lakhimpur districts," BJP state president Laxmi Kant Bajpai told PTI.

He said that a number of villages have been marooned, roads were washed away and people were forced to take shleter in makeshift arrangements due to floods.

In such a situation, campaigning, arrangements at polling centres and voter turnout on the polling day seemed to be impossible.

"It will be appropriate if you seek a report immediately, postpone the election and consider next date of elections," Bajpai wrote in his letter.

In a separate letter, he has demanded that central force should be deployed and videography of every polling centre should be done during voting.
