Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of misusing official machinery to install its government in Karnataka.

She also described the recent developments in the state as a conspiracy to destroy the Constitution.

Mayawati alleged the BJP had been misusing government machinery ever since it came to power at the Centre.

"It is a conspiracy to destroy the Constitution drafted by Baba Saheb (BR) Ambedkar. Since they (the BJP) came to power, they have been misusing government machinery and attacking democracy," the former UP chief minister said.

BJP legislature party leader B S Yeddyurappa was today sworn in as the chief minister of Karnataka, after an overnight high-voltage legal battle in the Supreme Court which refused to stay his swearing-in.

The BJP has 104 MLAs in the Assembly and is eight short of a simple majority. The Congress and JD(S), which have announced post-poll tie-up, have 78 and 37 seats respectively.

Launching a fusillade against Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala after he invited the BJP to form the government in the state, the Congress had yesterday dubbed him a "stooge" of the NDA major and described his decision as a "murder of democracy and trampling of the Constitution".
