BJP today warned the state government that it will not tolerate shifting of bus stand in Jammu city and it should, instead take effective steps to streamline traffic system.

"The government should take effective steps to streamline traffic system and construct the much awaited flyovers in Jammu city, instead of shifting the General Bus Stand to places away from city on the pretext of traffic congestion," Leader of BJP Legislature Party Ashok Khajuria, who is also Jammu East MLA, told reporters here today.

A large number of buses from different districts, tehsil headquarters and other states reach here daily and the bus stand also serves as base camp for Vaishno Devi and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, he said adding that these pilgrims and tourists play an important role in promoting business in the Raghunath Bazar, Gummat, Purani Mandi and Kanak Mandi markets.

The decision of shifting the bus stand is completely anti-people, he said.

Khajuria said, those who have concluded that the general bus stand is the root cause for all traffic-related problems and its shifting will automatically solve everything, should not ignore proper co-ordination between the traffic police and other agencies for smooth regulation of vehicular movements in the city.

"Mere recommendation of shifting a particular bus stand can't serve as a magic wand for bringing everything under control," he added.
