A clash today broke out between BJP workers and police over parking issues during former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's birthday celebrations here, leaving three women party workers injured.

Several BJP workers had gathered at the party's office at Navin Market here, and many of them had parked their vehicles on the adjoining roads choking the movement of traffic.

BJP city president Surendra Maithani alleged that police officers deployed there seized the keys of the vehicles, and beat up the workers. Three women party workers were injured in the melee, he claimed.

He further alleged that the police took action against only those vehicles that had a BJP flag on it while those with Samajwadi Party flag were left untouched.

The BJP leader claimed that the SSP Kanpur, who was present at the scene, threatened to arrest the BJP workers.

Kanpur SSP Yashasvi Yadav said that actions were taken against BJP workers who have parked their vehicles on roads and hindering the movement of traffic. He, however, denied that any worker was beaten up.
