The main Opposition National Conference today accused the BJP, which is in coalition with PDP in J&K, for working towards a "nefarious agenda" of diluting the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Disallowing the resolution seeking safeguards to Article 35-A of the Constitution unilaterally by the Speaker Legislative Assembly, who is supposed to be non-partisan, is a deep-rooted conspiracy of the BJP-PDP to weaken the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, especially the law on domicile," Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana said today.

He said that PDP and BJP are complimentary and supplementary to each other to repeal this constitutional guarantee, which is a legitimate provision to preserve the rights of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

Rana had submitted the resolution seeking the state government to resolve that all effective legal, political and administrative steps would be taken to ensure that Article 35A, as enshrined in the Constitution of India, upholding the unique status of the Permanent Residents of the state, and the Special Status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, is not compromised in the context and form that it exists as of today.

"By summarily disallowing the resolution, the BJP has made its clandestine anti-people and anti-Jammu and Kashmir attitude known," he said.

"We will fight it tooth and nail and foil any attempt to weaken this provision of the Constitution," Rana said.
