Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha's Maharashtra chief Pankaja Munde-Palve took a dig at Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar's statement about introducing the Women's Reservation Bill during the next session of the Parliament.
While addressing a Rashtravadi Yuvati Congress conclave yesterday, Sharad Pawar had said that he has spoken about the issue to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Questioning why the government did not introduce the Bill during the last four years, she said, "There is no meaning in the statement. Ruling parties could have easily done that in the last four years. Why did they not raise this issue during the last four years," adding that the BJP supports the Women's Reservation Bill.
The long-pending Women's Reservation Bill proposes to amend the Constitution of India to reserve 33 per cent of all seats in the Lok Sabha and in all state legislative Assemblies for women. The seats to be reserved in rotation would be determined by draw of lots in such a way, that a seat would be reserved only once in three consecutive general elections.
