Farmers owing allegiance to Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta and Ugrahan) today continued their five-day protest before district complexes across the state demanding loan waiver and against "anti-farmer" policies of the state and the Union government.

BKU (E) General Secretary Sukhdev Singh alleged that both Punjab and central government was responsible for "increasing number of farmers' suicides".

The protest was launched yesterday.

BKU (Ugrahan) president Joginder Singh and BKU (Ekta) General Secretary Sukhdev Singh alleged most of the farmer suicides were due to the support given to money lenders by the government.

The leaders said Punjab government had betrayed farmers by not implementing their demands.

They also demanded immediate waiving off government and private loans outstanding against farmers.

Sukhdev said the protesting farmers would intensify their agitation after five days if the government failed to address their problems.
