Bhartiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal) today demanded formation of a policy to determine the Minimum Support Price for agriculture produce and said the MSPs should be linked with current rate of inflation.
President and Punjab State Mandi Board Chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, while talking to reporters here, demanded Rs 2,400 per quintal as MSP for wheat and Rs 2,280 for paddy.
He said that the cost of agricultural inputs like fertilisers, seed, labour and diesel had increased manifold, making agriculture extremely unprofitable.
Lakhowal said Narendra Modi government should formulate a set MSP policy at the earliest or else BKU will be constrained to launch a protest in April next.
