Members of Bhartiya Kisan Union today staged a protest in front of the state Assembly and burnt their crops alleging that dues of cane farmers were still pending.

"The farmers staged a dharna in front of Vidhan Bhawan early this morning and burnt their crops including paddy and sugarcane," District President of BKU Harnam Singh said.

He alleged that while the state government was paying Rs six crore to medal winners of Olympics and other games, farmers were not getting even cost of their produce.

"This is gross injustice. Besides, dues of cane farmers are still pending," Singh said.

He said that purchase of paddy has also not been ensured by the government.

Later a delegation had a meeting with senior officials.
