Hundreds of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) workers today squatted on the road near Hapur Chungi intersection demanding compensation for land acquired by CPWD and protested against hike in fertilizer and urea prices.
The traffic movement at the intersection came to a grinding halt at noon due to the agitation.
Addressing the protesters, BKU Meerut Zone President Rajbir Singh said agricultural land at Raispur, Sihani, Harsav and Razapur villages was acquired by Central Public Works Department (CPWD) authorities five decades ago at throwaway prices.
