All the homes in Aizawl's Republic Veng locality today displayed black flags to mourn the death of five people living in the locality, reportedly murdered by a 37-year-old man on Friday last.

The black flags were put up in accordance with the appeal made by the local council and NGO coordination committee of the locality and would remain outside their houses till Saturday, a local leader said.

Parzuala, father of Laltlanchhuaha, accused in the gruesome murder, yesterday issued a public apology to the bereaved family members, general public and the police for the terrible act of his son.

Meanwhile, Police said that Laltlanchhuaha who was in the judicial custody had reportedly confessed to his crime before a magistrate.

He reportedly informed the magistrate that he committed the murder in a fit of rage and stabbed five people to death during a span of about half-an-hour.

The police quoted the accused as saying "that he first stabbed Sangliansiama (57), who refused to pay the former his wages for a month, and then stabbed Sangliansiama's wife after she started shouting for help."

He claimed that he killed other three people as they, including the five-year-old boy Jerome Lalrinnunga, were trying to attack him.
