Black pepper and ginger weaken in lacklustre trade

Black pepper and ginger unbleached weakened further in an otherwise lacklustre spices market here today on lower demand from stockists and retailers amid sluggish export offtake.

Meanwhile, rest all other spices held stable in the absence of any worthwhile buying.

Black pepper eased further by Rs 5/5 per kg to Rs 395/475 from Wednesday's close at Rs 400/480 and ginger unbleached softened by Rs 3 per kg to Rs 125 as against Rs 128 yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 395/475 (395/475), Ginger unbleached (per kg) 125 (128), Copra office Alappuzha (per quintal) 14,000 (14,000), Copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 13,800 (13,800), Copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 17,400 (17,400), Copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 15,500 (15,500).
