Black pepper drops on lacklustre trade

Black pepper prices dropped in an otherwise lacklustre spices market here today due to subdued demand from stockists and retailers.

Meanwhile, rest of the spices ruled steady in the absence of any major buying activity.

Black pepper slid by Rs 5/10 per kg to Rs 520/615 from Wednesday's close at Rs 525/625.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 520/615 (525/625), ginger unbleached (per kg) 120 (120), copra office Alappuzha (per quintal) 9,400 (9,400), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 9,300 (9,300), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 10,300 (10,300), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 10,000 (10,000).
