Black pepper eases in mute trade

Prices of black pepper eased further in an otherwise steady spices market here today due to lower demand from stockists and retailers amid reduced offtake from exporters.

Meanwhile, all other spices ruled stable in the absence of any largescale buying activity.

Black pepper went down by Rs 3 per kg to Rs 665/735 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 668/735.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs) with previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 665/735 (668/735), ginger bleached (per kg) 240 (240), ginger unbleached (per kg) 260 (260),copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 8,100 (8,100), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 8,000 (8,000), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 16,700 (16,700), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 9,500 (9,500).
