Black pepper gains on sustained demand

Black pepper prices gained further at the spices market here today due to sustained demand from stockists and exporters.

Copra office Kozhikode rose following good demand from stockists and retailers.

Meanwhile, all other copra varieties ruled stable in the absence of necessary buying support.

Black pepper moved up by Rs 5 per kg to Rs 725/775 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 725/770.

Copra office Kozhikode climbed by Rs 100 per quintal to Rs 5,600 as against Rs 5,500 yesterday.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 725/775 (725/770), ginger bleached (per kg) 160 (160), ginger unbleached (per kg) 180 (180), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 5,700 (5,700), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 5,600 (5,500), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 11,000 (11,000), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 7,300 (7,300).
