Black pepper rises in lacklustre trade

Black pepper prices rose smartly in an otherwise lacklustre trade at the spices market here today on sustained demand from stockist and traders.

While, all other spices maintained a stable trend in the absence of any worthwhile buying.

Black pepper climbed by Rs 20/10 per kg to Rs 690/750 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 670/740.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 690/750 (670/740), ginger bleached (per kg) 210 (210), ginger unbleached (per kg) 230 (230), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 7,500 (7,500), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 7,400 (7,400), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 18,000 (18,000), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 9,300 (9,300).
