Black pepper slumps on subdued demand

Black pepper prices slumped sharply in an otherwise lacklustre trade at the spices market here today owing to heavy stockists selling amid subdued demand from retailers as well as exporters in the backdrop of fresh arrivals from producing regions.

While, rest all other spices held steady in the absence of any large scale buying activity.

Black pepper dropped by Rs 60/40 per kg to Rs 560/660 from monday's closing level of Rs 620/700.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):

Black pepper (per kg) 560/660 (620/700), ginger bleached (per kg) 210 (210), ginger unbleached (per kg) 230 (230), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 9,700 (9,700), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 9,600 (9,600), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 15,500 (15,500), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 12,000 (12,000).
