Election Commission (EC) will deploy 30 central observers drawn from the Income Tax department for monitoring movement of black money and illegal inducements in the five states which are going to assembly polls beginning April 4.

Officials said the Central Board of Direct Taxes has forwarded the name of 30 IRS officials for the task and they have been brought on deputation to the poll-body.

"The officials will be exclusively dealing with the subject of black money which comes into play during the polls. They will work to ensure that illegal inducements made to voters are not able to disturb the level playing field," a senior official said.

The officials will also be in close touch with the control rooms established in each of the five states by the Income Tax department and will be sent processed reports of large cash withdrawls detected by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in their respective constituencies.

The Commission has also enabled e-filing of affidavits and expenditure statements for the forthcoming polls which will have to be lodged by the candidates.

EC recently announced the dates for Assembly polls in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry with the first polling day being April 4 and the counting of votes on May 16.
