Blast targets senior police official in Pak

A senior Pakistani police official today escaped an attempt on his life, when militants targeted his vehicle with a roadside bomb here.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Chamkani Abdul Salam was on a routine patrol when the remote-controlled bomb exploded near his vehicle on the Northern Bypass, Superintendent of Police (SP) rural Furqan Bilal said.

However, the police official remained unhurt. His vehicle suffered minor damage in the blast in which 5 kilograms of explosives were used, police said.

Meanwhile, a second remote-controlled bomb exploded in Karkhano Market earlier in the day moments after a police vehicle passed nearby. No loss of life was reported in this blast however, a passenger bus was partially damaged.
 

Last month, three Frontier Constabulary (FC) officials were killed and seven others were injured in a roadside improvised explosive device (IED) blast which occurred near their vehicle in Peshawar's Bashirabad area.
