Four women workers were injured, two of them critically, after a fire broke out at a fireworks factory in Durg district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, police said.
The fire broke out around 11.30 am in a section of Praja Fireworks Factory in Mahmara village of the district, when the victims were working with explosive powders, City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Durg Vivek Shukla said.
The women workers, identified as Rahi Nishad (45), Ganeshwari Nishad (40), Surji Nishad (40) and Mati Nishad (36), sustained burn injuries in the incident, he said.
Soon after being informed, a police team along with fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames, he said.
The injured were shifted to district hospital, from where they were referred to Sector-9 hospital, Bhilai for further medication, he said.
"Of them, Rahi and Ganeshwari sustained around 80 per cent burns and are said to be critical," he said.
Investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the incident, he added.
