RSS general secretary Suresh Joshi today made a strong pitch to promote eye donations, saying blindness-free India is not a difficult task, and we should accept this challenge.
"This resolution is attached to emotions of 125 crore people of this country...Blindness-free India is a question of the year, if we work with full vigour. If someone is blind naturally (by birth), then it is a different case.
"...But if it is in hands of human beings, then it is unlikely that we won't have solutions. So, blindness-free is not a difficult task, we should accept this challenge," he said.
Joshi, second-in-command in the RSS, made the remarks during a seminar during which a 'Cornea Blindness-free Campaign' was launched here by an NGO.
The event was also attended by Union Health Minister J P Nadda.
Joshi said India has had a long tradition of making selfless donations and underscored the need for making blood, eye and organ donations in big number. These donations, he added, "everyone can make" irrespective of their backgrounds.
Nadda said the government is giving more attention to take care of healthcare facilities in 184 districts which are "poor" on health indicators.
"We are giving 30 per cent more funding in the districts," the minister said.
