A block chairman was injured when unknown gunmen shot at him at Pipili in Puri district of Odisha, the police said today. "Chairman of Pipili block, Yudhisthir Swain, was shot by four persons who came on two motorbikes when he was having a chat with party workers outside BJD office at Pipili late last night," Superintendent of Police Anup Sahoo said. The miscreants fled after leaving the motorcycles when local residents chased them, the police said adding that a revolver was also seized from the spot. Swain, who sustained bullet injury in his left thigh, was immediately taken to a local hospital and later shifted to a hospital at Bhubaneswar where his condition was stated to be stable, hospital sources said. |
One person was detained for interrogation in connection with the incident, the police said.
