Block education officer arrested on graft charge

Sleuths of anti-corruption wing of Odisha police today arrested a block education officer (BEO) here for allegedly accepting illegal gratification of Rs 5000 from an assistant teacher of a primary school.

A release issued by the vigilance directorate here said Cuttack Sadar BEO Paramananda Mishra had demanded the amount from Sujapur school teacher Pradipta Chandra Das to regularize the latter's medical leave.

Laying a trap, Mishra was caught red handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount at his residence here at Rajendra Nagar by the vigilance sleuths.

While Mishra was forwarded to court, the vigilance sleuths are searching his house to ascertain any disproportionate assets in his name, the release said.
