Block-level stadiums to be established to boost sports

Block-level stadiums would be started which could be used by all villagers for all type of sports activity from this year, officials today said.

Director General of Youth Services & Sports, J&K, Navin Agarwal, said that such stadiums would be established in the state for the betterment of sports.

"Block level stadiums would be started which could be used by all villagers for all type of sports activity from this year", Agarwal told reporters.

He said that ten locations have been identified till now and 143 blocks would be established in next five years.

Agarwal said that from next session, we will formulate a policy to introduce sports syllabus from class VI onwards in the schools. There is no prescribed syllabus in the sports in schools.
 

Before opening a new school or upgrading, the schools should take NOC from Sports Department, he said.

The state players are not in the ranking of medals in major national games so far, he said adding we are trying to focus on each and every children.

There was "no infrastructure" in the state and the government is trying to upgrade the sports infrastructure for the betterment of the sports activities in the state, he said.

We have also distributed a large number of playing kits in various schools of the state, he said.
